With shows like Notre-Dame de Paris, Cats, Greaseand Dirty Dancing playing to sold-out audiences, Paris has become a real mecca for musicals. Just like Broadway in New York, Paris venues have developed a distinctive artistic identity and become genuine hubs for live performance. With their toe-tapping songs, dazzling stage decor and extravagant scenography, musicals have become a must-do for many visitors to Paris. A great outing with the family or a group of friends.

This year, the biggest Paris venues are once again putting on a whole range of exciting shows to choose from.

Le Roi Lion show Janique Charles

Following successful runs in London’s West End and on Broadway, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens at the Théâtre du Gymnase-Marie Bell on 23 September 2021. Based on Roald Dahl’s well-known children’s book, this fun-for-all-the-family musical will take you on a fantastic journey through the wacky world of Willy Wonka! Award-winning musical The Lion King returns to the Théâtre Mogador,  from 6 November 2021. Hugely popular and seen by hundreds of thousands around the world, it tells the moving story of Simba the lion cub against the backdrop of the African savanna.

Another highlight of the new season is the musical Noé, la force de vivre which tells the universal story of Noah’s Ark. It opens at the Paris Longchamp Racecourse on 27 November 2021. Nominated for a Molière Award in 2020, the musical tale Pinocchio will delight audiences at the Théâtre de la Renaissance from 9 October 2021. And in December 2021, the Théâtre de Paris presents the record award-winning musical The Producers, based on Mel Brooks’s cult film in a first French adaptation by talented director Alexis Michalik.
