La Quinzaine des Fiertés LGTB
The Quinzaine des Fiertés LGBT (Pride Fortnight) is a cultural, celebratory, and activist event that has taken place during the month of June in Paris since 2016. Organized by Inter-LGBT and backed by the City of Paris and the Île-de-France region, it brings to the forefront the associations that work all year round for the rights of LGBTQI+ people. This year, it takes place from 14 to 30 June 2019.
Its programme comprises some 50 events in gay or gay-friendly spaces, and in municipal and local council buildings: exhibitions, concerts, roller skating, conferences, bingo, queer drinks, debates, film screenings, picnics, dance and sports demonstrations, voguing performances, seminars, festive evenings, and clubbing, among other things.
On 20 June, the association Diivineslgbtqi+ will be celebrating its first anniversary with a big Afro-Caribbean dance at BAR OUF, the French capital’s famous lesbian bar. On 22 June at the Hôtel de Ville is the Grand Bal des Fiertés, a big charity event with all proceeds going to the association MAG Jeunes LGBT+. On 23 June, a big picnic organized by multiple associations at the Prairie du Cercle Nord at La Villette to celebrate diversity.
Its aim is to bring better visibility for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, as well as to support those working as part of the fight against violence and discrimination.
At the end of June, the Quinzaine des Fiertés will conclude with the Marche des Fiertés LGBT (Pride) parade through the streets of Paris.
Every year in June, the Paris Gay Pride parade (‘Marche des Fiertés’ in French) brings together lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and intersex people and their supporters in the streets of Paris to celebrate diversity.
This lively and colourful event brings together half a million participants in a single parade where everyone has their place. Loud music, unusual costumes and the floats of various organizations ensure that this is a vibrant and carnival-like affair, which is now a major event on the Parisian calendar.
Although the emphasis is on celebration, the Marche des Fiertés is also a call for equal rights regardless of sexuality. Slogans and messages punctuate the parade advocating solidarity for the various struggles led by the communities concerned.
