Paris, city of light!
Christmas in Paris is full of surprises. The suspense contributes to the pleasure, so not everything is revealed in advance … Rumour has it that the Christmas lights and decorations in Paris will be more splendid than ever this year. The Place Vendôme will be decorated with no less than five fir trees and for magical views down the Champs-Elysées, the famous Big Wheel, at Place de la Concorde will be giving rides from November 14th. On December 19th, the installation of the ice rink at the City Hall will mark the beginning of the Christmas school holidays. A great place to skate off some energy before going to see the Christmas window displays at Parisian department stores. A must.
Showtime at department stores!
This year, Galeries Lafayette invites the monster Gustave and his band for a madcap Monster show*. He stirs up trouble in the window displays and even under the famous art nouveau cupola, where this year the traditional 25-metre-high Christmas tree will be upside down!
At the BHV Marais, the ‘Noël des sales gosses’ (Naughty Children Christmas) is on the theme of video games. On November 26th, the store offers a foretaste of the festive season with a mega fête with free attractions**.Finally, the Printemps Haussmann offers us a magical Christmas journey, signed Burberry, featuring Tom, a little boy transported by his flying umbrella between London and Paris. An enchanting story portrayed on the facade of the store: Tom 4-metres-tall and in 3D is shown flying away through the starry night against a backdrop that is a joyful mix of Franco-British architecture.
Authentic Christmas markets
An essential part of the festive season are the Christmas markets – 11 in total. The market at La Défense is the biggest of these, with 350 wooden cabins and will open on November 20th 2014. The perfect place to pick up arts & crafts items and gastronomic specialities from various regions of France.
Also not to be missed in the historical heart of Paris, the Notre-Dame arts & crafts market, and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés market. Plus of course the Champs-Elysées market, which will open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Evenings on the world’s most beautiful avenue will be more captivating than ever.
Christmas in Paris is always a magical occasion!!
