Description

This small private street of artists’ studio-houses is in part the work of architect André Lurçat, a protagonist of the Modernist movement alongside Le Corbusier, Auguste Perret and Robert Mallet-Stevens. Lurçat designed eight of the studio-houses here between 1924 and 1928, including one (number 4) for his brother the painter Jean Lurçat. The villa attracted numerous artists, including Salvador Dalí, André Derain, Chaïm Soutine, and authors such as Antonin Artaud and Henry Miller, who wrote Tropic of Cancer when he was living at number 18. You can visit the house of sculptress Chana Orloff, designed by architect Auguste Perret, at number 7b.
