Description

Presented in the historic reception rooms of the Hôtel de la Monnaie in Paris, the exhibition L'Argent dans l'Art (‘Money in Art’) explores more than 20 centuries of art history on the theme of the complex relationship between art and money, from Antiquity to the present day.

From the first representations of myths in Antiquity to the vision of the art market in the 19th and 20th centuries, visitors will discover nearly 150 pieces from the history of art in which an imaginary world centred on money unfolds.

Various themes are addressed, such as "The Christian morality of money", "The world of finance" and "The value of art: what does the artist sell?” through the works of painters like Degas, Renoir,Louis le Nain, Arman and Warhol

La Monnaie de Paris

Founded in 864, the Monnaie de Paris has had its art workshops in the centre of Paris, at 11 quai de Conti since 1775
In 2017, the Monnaie de Paris opened its doors to the public to reveal its manufacturing secrets through a sensory experience around metal in its corporate museum. A veritable window on the factory, this museum presents the heritage collections and the exceptional know-how of the Monnaie de Paris artisans. Art crafts and priceless treasures are presented in a fun and interactive way.
The majestic neoclassical building also houses a shop - where visitors will find, among other things, art products and coin collections - chef Guy Savoy's three-starred restaurant in the salons sur Seine and the Café Frappé, which offers fresh dishes cooked with products from the Paris region.
