Affiche L'exposition Napoléon, Grande Halle de la Villette, Paris

Description

From 14 April to 19 September 2021, the Grande Halle de la Villette presents the exhibition Napoleon to mark the bicentenary of the death of this mythical figure.

An exceptional event that highlights this great military commander and head of state who founded the France of today and who still fascinates the whole world. A chronological layout reveals the life of Napoleon Bonaparte from his early years at the Brienne military college, to his victorious campaigns in Italy and Egypt, as well as his coronation, his failures and his decline and that of his empire. It also evokes the more intimate facets of this mythical figure, his marriage to Josephine then Marie-Louise and his heir who was given the title 'king of Rome' at his birth.

The exhibition shows 150 items from some of the greatest museums and reconstitutes the life and splendour of the court of the period. Furniture, decorative objects, Sèvres porcelain, goldsmith and silversmith art objects, clothing ... highlight the Empire Style which has left its mark on the decorative arts. Visitors can admire Napoleon's emblematic black felt hat, the majestic throne of his coronation, his campaign tentequipped with its original furniture and numerous personal objects. Bronzes, sculptures by Vincenzo Vela, Eugène Guillaume, paintings by Jean-Louis David, Antoine-Jean Gros, François Gérard ... as well as audio-visual installations enrich the layout of this large-scale presentation.
