From 15 October 2020 to 2 May 2021, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs dedicates a major exhibition to the history of luxury across different civilizations. The hundred or so works on display celebrate the changes in the notion of luxury, from an art object to a fashion object to an art of living, against the backdrop of a scenography designed by Nathalie Crinière.

On this occasion, areas that are usually closed have been opened to the public: the Salon 1900, designed for the Paris World Fair, as well as the Salon des Boiseries, which features a stunning Venini chandelier, exhibited in Paris in 1925.

MAD - Musée des Arts Décoratifs

Situated in a wing of the Louvre, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs provides visitors with an insight into the decorative arts from medieval times to the present day. Visitors can discover a bedroom from the 15th century, admire the creations of numerous porcelain factories (Sèvres, Saint-Cloud, etc.), and observe the birth and development of art nouveau, with its curves and floral motifs. Works by contemporary designers and artists such as the Bouroullec brothers are presented towards the end of the exhibition visit. The rich collections from the departments of fashion and textiles, advertising and graphic design, conserved by the museum, are displayed only during temporary exhibitions. The nave, the superbly decorated central section of the museum, is used to host exhibition-events. Complete your visit with a trip to the bookstore and gift shop, 107Rivoli, where an exclusive selection of designer objects are on sale.
