Description

The Conciergerie is welcoming an homage to a major historical figure and popular icon who has inspired the greatest creators. The exhibition unveils the many different representations of the French queen through almost 200 works, objets d’art, historic and contemporary documents, never-before-seen interviews, film excerpts and fashion accessories. A number of rare pieces are on display, some for the first time, including records from her trial, her last letter and treasures from the royals’ secret armoire de fer (‘iron chest’).

Conciergerie

The Conciergerie, an important remnant of the palace of the Capetians, provides a remarkable example of 14th century civil architecture with the Salle des Gens d'Armes, Salle des Gardes and the historic kitchens. Almost the entire lower level of the palace was turned into a prison in the 15th century; you can visit the dungeons, as well as the Chapel where Marie Antoinette was held prisoner during the French Revolution and which is now dedicated to her memory.
