Description

From 23 September 2017 to 14 January 2018, L’Avare (The Miser) is being staged at the Théâtre du Ranelagh. A classic of French comic theatre, undoubtedly one of Molière’s masterpieces, the play has been given a burlesque twist in this brilliant production by Jean-Philippe Daguerre.
The plot: Harpagon is not only an egocentric, authoritarian and cruel man, he is also as stingy as they come. He organizes arranged marriages for his two children in order to safeguard his fortune. However, they refuse to comply with their father’s wishes, and this sets off a whole series of plot twists and turns.
The play has surtitles in English for non-French speakers (advance booking required).

Théâtre du Ranelagh

This modern theatre that holds 300 seats has conserved its character, notably by its sculpted oak paneling which decorates its stalls and the balconies sat on top of a decorated ceiling of painted chambres. The theatre, through this architectural appeal, was registered in the French Supplementary Historic Monument list in 1977.
