Christmas market at Notre Dame Cathedral

December 2019

The holiday season is an opportunity for the streets of the capital to welcome numerous artisans and to showcase the talent and skill of France’s craft workers. Just two minutes from the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral in the 5th arrondissement, the Square Viviani—home to Paris’s oldest tree—hosts the annual Notre-Dame Christmas Market. Ceramics, jewellery, decorative ironwork, leather items, tableware… a multitude of items to admire or buy as gifts, while soaking up the festive atmosphere with a glass of mulled wine.

Square René Viviani

The Square René Viviani is a lovely little public garden bordering the Seine, an ideal departure point for a walk in the Latin Quarter. There is a fine view of the nearby Notre-Dame Cathedral. The Square Viviani is especially famous as it is home to the oldest tree in Paris, a robinia planted in 1601!
