Every year, since 1903, the Salon d'Automne has been held in Paris. After the Petit Palais, this art exhibition, created by the Belgian Frantz Jourdain, now takes place at La Grande Halle de la Villette. It was first designed to offer opportunities to young artists and to bring the Impressionist movement to a wider audience. Why autumn? Because this allowed French and foreign artists to paint small scale works outdoors in the summer and then show them at this exhibition. Today, all the arts are represented: paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, drawings, books on artists, the applied arts ...

Grande Halle de La Villette

The Grande Halle, a stone's throw from the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie, is the former abattoir of La Villette. Built between 1865 and 1867, it is listed as a historical monument. Restored between 2005 and 2007 by Bernard Reichen and Philippe Robert, it is one of the city's top spots for culture, hosting shows, concerts, exhibitions and festivals.
