Ever been in Paris in summer and seen people stroll past bearing huge roses made of ice cream? They look almost too big for the cones they come in, and they don’t even seem to be melting over the hands of the lucky eaters nibbling at them, petal by petal. The man behind these highly edible roses is Italian master ice cream maker Alberto. He has two shops, in Rue des Lombards and Rue Mouffetard, selling ice creams in thirty flavours for every taste, from the utterly conservative to the totally fantastical. Parisians like “Les Gelati d’Alberto” because of the offbeat ice cream shapes and generous servings.
