Description

Through temporary exhibitions, distributed throughout the year following "cycles", the Palace of the King of Rome presents contemporary art in different forms, as well as in the future exhibitions from the collections of the Museums of the City and on the historical and / or artistic heritage of the City of Rambouillet. The Palace of the King of Rome is so designated, because the Emperor had decided to assign it after the work of the architect Auguste Famin to his son born in 1811. Unfortunately, he could not stay there ... The current building has the two wings initially built from 1783 to 1787 by Thévenin for the count of Angiviller, governor of Rambouillet, but the central pavilion was razed under Louis-Philippe. This imposing monument is a testament to neoclassical architecture, despite some Italian features due to Famin. It houses temporary exhibitions organized by the Heritage Service. An adjoining garden, known as the "King of Rome", adorns the architecture.
