Quartier Latin - 5e Arrondissement

Description

This 250m² exhibition space (open since October 2014) offers the oppportunity to discover the richness of the mineral world. Trésors de la Terre takes place in a renovated space at the Galerie de Minéralogie et de Géologie and presents a selection of the most remarkable pieces from the prestigious collections of mineralogy from the museum. Here is where you'll discover the formation of minerals, the variety of their colours and their forms and even the astonishing phenomenons like the fluorescence, from an aesthetic and educational point of view. 600 minerals from an exceptional diversity are exposed - minerals from five continents, meteorites, rough and cut gems, historical jewellery, sculpted objects - around a central setting of about twenty giant crystals. Precious specimens that tell the story of the Earth and the Solar System.

Garden

The Jardin des Plantes is one of the MNHN’s Paris locations, alongside the Musée de l’Homme and the Paris Zoological Park The Jardin des Plantes consists of twenty-four hectares of botanical gardens. Nestled in vegetation, it provides a window onto biological diversity, both familiar and exotic, rare and commonplace.
Woven throughout this haven of greenery are cultural sites dedicated to nature and to showcasing the fr’s exceptional heritage collections. Historic museums and sites explore issues of biodiversity and geodiversity:
The Gallery of Evolution, the Gallery of Palaeontology and Comparative Anatomy and the Gallery of Mineralogy and Geology.

For the disabled public, the guided tours and workshops use tangible and educational means specifically tailored to those visiting the museum. Audio guides and adapted routes are available to download on the website http://www.museesenliberte.fr/index.php.
- Visually impaired: in the Grande Galerie de l’Evolution, an integrated tactile route lets you discover around fifty bronze animal sculptures (free access). A Corian plateau with raised designs and information in braille are associated with the sculptures.
