Description

A venue truly devoted to music, Cité de la Musique, situated in the south of the Parc de la Villette near the Conservatoire de Paris, was designed by the architect Christian de Portzamparc. It provides access to musical culture through its concerts, museum and educational and editorial activities for adults and children. The Musée de la Musique at the Philharmonie de Paris brings together a collection of more than 7,000 instruments and art objects. More than 1,000 are in the permanent collections such as national treasures like a Chopin piano and a Brassens guitar. They allows us to look back at Western music from the 16th century to today, and also to see a glimpse into the main music cultures of the world. Since January 2015, the Cité de la Musique has been located at the new complex for the Philharmonie de Paris. A new building by architect Jean Nouvel has been added to the existing complex. This groundbreaking building also houses an auditorium with a capacity of 2,400.
