Musée Curie

The Radium Institute, whose construction began in 1911, included a physics and chemistry laboratory directed by Marie Curie and a medicine and biology laboratory entrusted to Doctor Claudius Regaud. On the ground floor of the Curie pavilion of the former Radium Institute, the Curie museum presents objects, photographs and documents on the history of radioactivity and its medical applications, as well as on life and work of "the family of five Nobel prizes". Many scientific instruments used until the end of the 1930s are on display, in particular those which made it possible to artificially produce radioelements for the first time in the world. It was in this place, in fact, that in January 1934, Frédéric and Irène Joliot-Curie discovered artificial radioactivity. You can see Marie Curie's old office, as well as her chemistry laboratory (decontaminated in 1981). The Curie museum, renovated in 2012, offers a museographic itinerary organized around 4 themes: the family with five Nobel prizes; radium; the Curie laboratory; the Curie Foundation to treat cancer.
