Description

The residence of French sovereigns from François I to Napoleon III, the Château de Fontainebleau (55km south of the capital) exemplifies the most significant styles through the centuries from the 16th century: unique ensembles of wood panelling, stucco and paintings from the Renaissance, carved wood ceilings and painted decor from the 17th and 18th centuries and apartments with furniture dating back to the First Empire. 15 rooms are dedicated to Napoleon and his family. Chinese Museum created by Empress Eugénie.

Courtyard and gardens open every day from 9am to 5pm (November-February), 9am-6pm (March, April and October) and 9am-7pm (May-September). The park is open every day, 24 hours. Entry is free.

Ticket for the Grands Appartements, including the Pope's apartment, the Renaissance rooms, the Saint-Saturnin chapel, the royal apartments, the Diana Gallery, Napoleon's inner apartment and the Napoleon Museum: €11 (Reduced rate: €9).
One hour before the chateau closes: €5.50 (Reduced rate: €4.50).
