Phono Museum Paris

53 boulevard de Rochechouart - 75009 Paris

Montmartre - La Chapelle - 9e Arrondissement

Phono Museum Paris, the museum of sound, highlights 140 years of recorded sound. The entire evolution of the technology of sound recording is demonstrated, from the first cylinder and then disk phonographs, moving on to reel-to-reel and cassette tape recorders, and leading to CDs and today's MP3 files. Nearly 300 machines are on exhibit, all in working order. Posters of different eras and photographs of musicians and singers enhance your visit. The phonograph was the first mass-produced commodity to enter the home. Situated at the foot of Montmartre, close to the area's famous music halls, the Phono Museum also winks at the history of this district, from the Belle Époque to the Roaring 20s, from the Moulin Rouge to the Élysée Montmartre, from Mistinguett to Joséphine Baker.
