An outing that mixes shopping and heritage in the Madeleine district

Shopping, culture and fine food and wine are on the programme for a walk in the Madeleine district. The recipe for a perfect outing in this area of Paris: begin your walk with a pinch of culture (Pinacothèque, Eglise de la Madeleine, Théâtre de la Madeleine ...), then add a dash of gourmet indulgence (Ladurée...), and sprinkle with a zest of shopping (Zara home, John Galliano, Kenzo, Madura ...). Leave it to rest for a minute… and then set off in search of a new district.

Surrounding the Madeleine church, the square of the same name, is well-known for its luxury boutiques and fine food stores. Many historic and exclusive restaurants are firmly established here and offer a wonderful view of the impressive monument.

The Madeleine church was completed in 1842. It looks somewhat like a Greek temple, with no bell tower or cross on the outside, but two monumental doors and a forest of Corinthian columns. From the top of the steps, visitors can enjoy a view worthy of Olympia!
