It’s official, after five years, Riot Games are putting Europe back in the spotlight choosing Paris to round off the celebrations and host the grand final of the League of Legends championship series. This eagerly awaited event is the most important tournament for esport fans.
The final is based on the legendary video game ‘League of Legends’ in which a team of 5 players try to beat their formidable opponents and destroy the Nexus, a sort of arena protected by two turrets, of the opposing team. In 2018, Paris welcomed the Mid-Season Invitational, where Europe (EU LCS), South Korea (LCK), North America (NA LCS) and China (LPL) competed in the same game.
After the pre-finals in Madrid and Berlin, where some 800 or so people tried to qualify for the grand final, three teams finally came out top and will compete against each other on 10 November at the Accorhotels Arena. The event will be broadcast live on Youtube and Twitch as well as in several esport bars.
On this occasion, a village devoted to e-sport will be set up on the courtyard of the Hôtel de Ville, the seat of the Paris City Council, from 6 to 10 November. Several activities including demonstrations of Wii bowling, some mini-tournaments and an evening display of the use of virtual reality are programmed during this 4-day event organized by the Silver Geek association and e-sport platform Level 256.
- Wednesday 6 November (5pm-8pm1) Freeplay – Mini-tournaments for young people and the public at large
- Thursday 7 November (1.30pm-3.30pm): Wii bowling demonstration / Silver Geek
- Friday 8 November (1pm-5pm): League of Legends one-on-one fight
