Celebrate New Year’s Eve with a musical night out at one of Paris’s prestigious theatres. If you haven’t seen it yet, join the 100 million people worldwide who have enjoyed the musical version of The Lion King! It’s on at the Théâtre Mogador. The Théâtre du Chatelet takes us behind the scenes of Broadway in the 1930s with the long-running hit musical 42nd Street. Over at the Théâtre de Paris, Alexis Michalik’s award-winning version of The Producers is yet another not-to-be-missed musical option this New Year. If you’re looking for a fun family show, head to Bobino for The Opera Locos, a fast-paced zany musical comedy in which five opera singers find themselves in a series of burlesque situations as they revisit some of the best-known opera airs combined with contemporary pop and rock hits.

The magic of dance on New Year’s Eve

Paris’s most prestigious operas and music venues promise delight and wonderment this New Year’s Eve with moving, dramatic and captivating dance performances. The National Opera Ballet of Ukraine presents Giselle at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, taking the audience on a fairy-tale journey through a romantic and bucolic legend with some virtuoso performances. The Bastille Opera has chosen the majestic Swan Lake, whose grace never fails to delight, for its New Year’s Eve programme. At the Palais Garnier, Pina Baush’s Kontakthof juxtaposes, in a ballroom setting, desire, angst, sadness and humour in a choreographic exploration of human emotions. And for an entrancing evening of flamenco, Sara Baras lights up the Salle Pleyel with her show Alma.

For a spectacular New Year’s Eve, book your ticket for Compagnie Gruss’s stunning equestrian showLes Folies Gruss. The show, at the circus tent in the Bois de Boulogne, starts at 9:00pm on 31 December 2022. The Slava's Theatre company unveils a poetic and endearing universe with its clown show, Slava's Snow Show, at the Trianon, on 31 December at 7pm If you’d prefer an earlier start, the Bormann circus’s show starts at 3:00pm on 31 December. A Journey Through Time features acrobats and other acts, offering the public two hours of circus fun, emotion and breath-taking wonderment.

For a good dose of humour for New Year's Eve, head for the capital's stand-up clubs. The Jamel Comedy Club, an institution of laughter and a breeding ground for talent, is offering a special evening of La Troupe se met sur son 31, with an avalanche of sketches performed by 6 comedians on stage. Two shows to choose from, at 6pm or 8pm and a glass of champagne is offered! At the Théâtre des Nouveautés, Olivier Giraud juggles with gags on the habits and customs of the capital, in the language of Shakespeare, with his show "How to become a Parisian in one hour" (6pm), while at the Scala, a comedian recounts her extravagant adventures (9.30pm), and the Théâtre l'Essaïon livens up its stage with a New Year's Eve party and a mischievous pianist for a show full of musical humour (10pm).
