Back

In Paris, cafés have always been great places to meet people and they play an essential role in Parisian social life, well-known throughout the world. In recent years, they have benefited from a real comeback, in all kinds of entertaining ways.
Local residents and passing visitors get together to have a drink, of course, but also to play board games, listen to music, have a sing-song, have their tarot cards read, or to enjoy philosophical or political discussions... Good times to be shared!
One-offs
Here’s just a few of the many original cafés where you can meet the Parisians and join in all kinds of entertaining events.
- Le Petit Ney
Le Petit Ney is a literary cafe in the community created and run by local people. It is open to everyone, members and non-members. Home-style cooking is served every lunchtime and in the evening during cultural events, and the drinks are from ethical trading.
The activities in this friendly venue and neighbourhood are numerous: shows, exhibitions, debates, encounters, workshops, all of which enable local people as well as strangers (meaning those who do not live in the neighbourhood) to meet one another. So a place that is a little of centre, but well worth the detour!

This is a new local community cafe opened last summer in the Aligre district. Run by the Commune Libre d’Aligre association, it is a place for local people and open to visitors. Here you can share a meal prepared by local inhabitants and enjoy exhibitions or other cultural activities. Wednesday is children’s day.
The specific feature is that everything happening here is organized by the people living in the area.
So you will be able to taste local recipes and bring your own, during culinary workshops starting at 8:00pm.
