In 1992 the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie opened the Cité des Enfants, a place meant especially for children, as its name indicates. The site is divided into two different areas... The first is designed for 3 to 5 year-olds while the second area is meant for older children (5 to 12). Both areas give children an opportunity to have fun while they learn with a number of early-learning games, sensorial activities and manipulation.
The early learning area for children aged 3-5 was fully renovated in December 2007, 15 years after the Cité first opened. The new 1,800 sq. metre area is twice as large as the previous one and now also welcomes tiny tots (2-3-year-olds).
The new-generation Cité des Enfants offers 2 to 5-year-olds the opportunity to discover and explore five themed ‘worlds’ to learn about themselves and what they can do as well as group play: “Je me découvre”, “Je sais faire”, “Je me repère”, “J’expérimente” and “Tous ensemble”.
The bigger children will have to wait until March 2009 for the new, renovated 2,100 sq. metre 5-12-year-olds’ area with a scientific and technical focus. At the current site, which will remain open until August 2008, children can enjoy 150 activities grouped around four scientific, communication, interaction and mechanics-related themes: “Enquêtes du vivant”, “Techniques pour communiquer”, “Toi et les autres” and “Machines et mécanismes”.
