Ballet in two acts. La Fille mal gardée is a romantic pastoral comedy. Whilst the theme of thwarted love is not new, the originality of the story lies in the fact that its main characters are just ordinary people of no great social standing.

A delightful ballet; choreography by Dauberval, who was inspired by a gouache by Beaudouin of a mother quarrelling with her daughter.
