Vélib' is a self-service bicycle hire network set up by J C Decaux for the Paris city authorities. Some 300 m apart, they are composed of a terminal and bike stands. Available 24/7 since 15 July 2007, it is possible to take out a subscription on the Vélib’ website but also at arrondissement town halls (mairies), post offices and some metro stations. Tarifs: 1 day €1; 7 days €5; 1 year €29. Whichever subscription you choose, the first 30 minutes of each journey are always free. If your journey lasts more than 30 minutes, the cost of the Vélib’ service will be debited from your Vélib’ account (for the 1 year Carte Vélib') or from your bank account (for the short duration subscription). The cost of the Vélib’ service will be debited from your account as follows: 1st extra half hour: €1. 2nd extra half hour: €2. From the 3rd half hour: €4 per extra half hour.
