Setting 4: Place de la Concorde
The fashion shows are over. Andy has had one of the most intense experiences of her short career, but she realizes that her adventure in the fashion world is finished and decides to make a fresh start.
The setting
Designed by Jacques-Ange Gabriel in honour of Louis XV and built between 1755 and 1775, Place de la Concorde was a focal point of the French Revolution. The largest square in Paris (84,000 square metres), it is ringed by eight statues facing towards the French cities they represent. In the centre stands the 3,300 year-old pink granite obelisk of Luxor, a gift made by the Viceroy of Egypt to France in
1830. The magnificent Fountain of the Rivers and Fountain of the Seas, situated on either side of the obelisk, celebrate river and maritime navigation respectively. When this prestigious square is lit up at nightfall, it becomes a supreme symbol of the City of Light.
