Paris is not just any city, it’s a mosaic of villages and neighbourhoods, each one with its own special identity, quite different from the others. You’ll soon fall under the spell of the contours, features and particular character of each one. Depending on your mood and taste, choose the Paris that appeals to you using our presentation of the principal Parisian districts. You’ll find details of the places mentioned in our information pages and a full description of everything each of these neighbourhoods has to offer in the guidebook Paris for you, published annually in French and in English by the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau. It is distributed free of charge in all our welcome centres.
Party-time Paris
République, Oberkampf, Bastille
République, Oberkampf, Bastille: a magical triangle if you like to party. There is no better part of Paris to dance, have a drink and meet new people. This is one upbeat, lively neighbourhood!
On some evenings along the rue Oberkampf, you get the impression that everyone knows each other. Regulars in one bar meet later at another, where they come across people heading for the first one. You can be having dinner next to total strangers, with whom you’ll no doubt dance later. The night brings together people who will never meet again… at least until the following Saturday. So, from the rue de Lappe to the rue de la Roquette, forget your inhibitions and get in with the “in” crowd. And when you tire of partying, recharge your batteries with an afternoon stroll around the green and tranquil pathways of the famous Père-Lachaise cemetery.
