Paris and its neighbourhoods

Back

Pfy-71-110Paris is not just any city, it’s a mosaic of villages and neighbourhoods, each one with its own special identity, quite different from the others. You’ll soon fall under the spell of the contours, features and particular character of each one. Depending on your mood and taste, choose the Paris that appeals to you using our presentation of the principal Parisian districts. You’ll find details of the places mentioned in our information pages and a full description of everything each of these neighbourhoods has to offer in the guidebook Paris for you, published annually in French and in English by the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau. It is distributed free of charge in all our welcome centres.

Mythical Paris

Mythical ParisChamps-Elysées, Avenue Montaigne, Concorde, Musée du Louvre

Paris will always be Paris... and the Champs-Elysées confirms this. The name of the avenue has crossed over into all languages and its broad pavements have become the favourite meeting place for visitors from around the world. Even the Arch that crowns it is a triumph!

A walk along the Champs-Elysées is a special feeling. Even regular Parisian strollers are often as much affected by the experience as visitors from farther off places. One never ceases to be impressed by the avenue’s dimensions, lights and majestic air. But, don’t let yourself be intimidated – the “Champs”, with their galleries and luxury Ileries-2C-de-triomphe-2boutiques, cinemas and terraces are also a magnificent showcase for the French way of life. A fabulous shopping experience is to be found on the avenue Montaigne and rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Around this magical setting, place de l'Étoile and place de la Concorde filter different populations – those going off to work, and those who, like you, are lucky enough to be able to take their time... and who will certainly appreciate the incredible perspective extending from the Louvre across the Tuileries gardens to the Grande Arche at La Défense.
