 Paris is not just any city, it’s a mosaic of villages and neighbourhoods, each one with its own special identity, quite different from the others. You’ll soon fall under the spell of the contours, features and particular character of each one. Depending on your mood and taste, choose the Paris that appeals to you using our presentation of the principal Parisian districts. You’ll find details of the places mentioned in our information pages and a full description of everything each of these neighbourhoods has to offer in the guidebook Paris for you, published annually in French and in English by the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau. It is distributed free of charge in all our welcome centres.
Artists’ Paris
 Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Musée d’Orsay, Odéon, Luxembourg
From the quays of the Seine to Montparnasse, this part of Paris evokes bohemian and literary artists of the past. Take a fresh look at this celebrated neighbourhood, where jazz still dominates the music scene.
This neighbourhood has a kaleidoscopic quality to it. There are the luminous colours of the Musée d’Orsay located in a station building on the banks of the river. Then, there are the warm and shimmering hues that light up Saint-Germain-des-Prés by night. Close by Odéon, there are the darker tones of churches as old as the city itself,   and then the light and airy shades of the Jardin du Luxembourg, an immense park full of greenery where it is a pleasure to tarry. Ring the changes: moving from the quiet of small museums to the bustle of the Buci market on busy days; taking a trip underground through the ancient catacombs, only to emerge onto the bright terraces of distinguished or secluded cafés and restaurants in Montparnasse. Flit from clothes boutiques to shoe shops, browse through book stores; come and go, the wind on your face, and just take it all in. Above all, let your instinct guide you…
