Today the city of Paris has some 426 gardens and 20 cemeteries, some of which organise visits for the blind. These include:- Parc floral de Paris and its floral pine grove (12th arrondissement)- Parc de Bercy (12th) - Parc Montsouris (14th) - Montparnasse cemetery (14th) - Parc André Citroen (15th) - Pré-catelan and its Shakespeare garden, Bois de Boulogne (16th) - Serres [hothouses] d'Auteuil in winter (16th).
The tours feature the historical aspects of the site and also the hearing, tactile and olfactory senses of the participants. It is essential to register well in advance for these tours on 01 40 71 75 60 or 74 64 and blind visitors should be accompanied by a sighted friend. A detailed programme is available in braille and large type in the Hotel de Ville reception, arrondissement town halls, at 94-96 quai de la Rapée, Paris 12th and in the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau.
