Description

With a distance of 6,000 metres, the Grand Steeplechase de Paris is one of the most iconic races in the horse-racing calendar. It originated at Auteuil Racecourse in 1874. With 23 obstacles, the Grand Steeplechase is a difficult and challenging competition. It requires endurance, power, speed and courage. Victory here is a consecration. Jean Daumas won the event 5 times between 1959 and 1966.

In 2015, victory went to Jacques Ricou with his horse Milord Thomas. The Grand Steeplechase de Paris is not just a race; it is also a festive event.

Hippodrome d'Auteuil

Horse racing fans and in particular steeplechasing fans go to the Auteuil racecourse, on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne. This mecca for jump racing, inaugurated in 1873, extends over 33 hectares and includes 3 tracks: one with hedges, a steeplechase track and a figure of 8 track. It attracts each of the renowned international jump races: the Grand Steeple Chase de Paris, the 48h de l’Obstacle … The racecourse is easily accessible by metro. Hosts up to 40,000 spectators. Numerous services available.
