Description

The Musée des Arts et Métiers, founded in 1794, is housed in the Abbaye de Saint-Martin-des-Champs. With a total surface are of 10,000 m², 6,000m² is devoted to permanent exhibitions. 3,000 objects are displayed out of a total collection of 80,000 objects and 15,000 drawings. There are various areas to visit based on different themes: scientific instruments, materials, construction, communication, mechanics and transport. The museum also displays the original model of Foucault's Pendulum.

Visitor tools

Audio guides available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese (€5). Three itineraries are offered to adults and teenagers as well as one for children aged 7-12.

Educational activities

Educational activities. Workshops for children aged 4 years and over: with the family, individually or for birthdays. Family visits (children from 6 to 12yrs) every Sunday at 11am: themed or general itineraries. Bookings on +33 (0) 1 53 01 82 75 Presence of educational guides.

Independent tour

Permanent exhibition: €8 / €5.50 (concessions). Temporary exhibitions: €6 / €4 (concessions). Permanent exhibition + temporary exhibition: €9 / €6.50 (concessions) / €4 (under 18s). Concessionary rate applies to job seekers, teachers and students.

Guided tour

Demonstrations and free general and themed tours (included in the entrance fee) which do not require booking in advance.

Free

Free entry on the first Sunday of the month and Thursdays after 6pm.
Free entry for those under 26 from countries within the European Union, primary and secondary school teachers (except temporary exhibitions).
Free for disabled visitors and an accompanying person, journalists, 'Amis' of the Musée des Arts et Métiers, Cnam staff and auditors, holders of the ICOM, AMCSTI and Inter-Musées cards.

Free for young people and children

Temporary exhibitions are free for under 5s. Permanent exhibitions are free for under 18s.

Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm. Late opening on Thursday until 9.30pm.
The resource centre is open from 10am to 6pm from Tuesday to Friday and from 1pm to 6pm on the first Sunday of the month and the following Saturdays.
The photography agency is available upon appointment only.

Accessibility information

- Visually impaired: tactile discovery activities available from Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 6pm (reservation required at least one month in advance). The history of the print house is a tactile part of the visit.
- Hearing impaired: activities in French Sign Language for individuals (reservation required at least one week in advance), for groups ( reservations required at least two weeks in advance), and lip-reading tours (reservation required at least one month in advance).
- Mentally disabled: adapted tours (reservations required at least one month in advance), non-guided tours for children with booklet provided to assist with the visit.
