Half-timbering, exposed stonework, paintings depicting hunting scenes, and old maps of Paris hung on the walls … the Hotel Saint-Paul Rive Gauche has a particular cachet that gives it the appearance of a large family residence. Guests are transported into another time, in the midst of ornate mirrors and restored wicker chairs, in the heart of timeless Paris. Presiding over the establishment is the cat SKYPE, a playful host, master of the house and the mascot of guests.









Situated in the heart of Saint-Germain des Prés, a few steps from Place de l’Odéon, this 17th century residence offers guest rooms full of charm on five floors. Regularly refurbished and redecorated, they all offer a high level of comfort. They are equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV with some 30 or so channels and a work area with desk. Standard and classic guest rooms have a double bed and mainly overlook the courtyard. More upscale, the superior guest rooms are more spacious and are situated on the rue Monsieur le Prince side of the hotel. Note: the highest ceilings are on the first floor and will delight those who like half-timbering and four poster beds.





The most romantic will opt for the bijoux guest room on the top floor, overlooking the Paris rooftops and the yard of the Saint-Louis high school, or the superior room, situated on the ground floor and overlooking the hotel’s small interior courtyard. Often booked for honeymoons or wedding anniversaries, it has a Jacuzzi and a Roman shower. And that little extra touch: a ceiling of sparkling stars … just above the bed.






Marianne Oberlin, the proprietor, has decorated each guest room differently. Vintage furniture, exotic wallpaper, warm carpets … Far from the uniformity of guest rooms in standard hotels, the Saint-Paul Rive Gauche is a unique place, so much so that regular guests become quickly attached to one another..





The communal areas have also undergone major renovation, that highlights the original structure of the building. In the reading room, guests can lounge in large ‘Haute-Epoque’ armchairs opposite an ecological chimney place. The breakfast room is situated on the lower ground floor in the former wine cellar and features a well which gave the Hôtel Saint-Paul its original name – "the Hôtel du Réservoir" – , where local residents used to come to draw their water.
