Capital of opera
Paris has three opera houses, each with its own distinctive yet complementary identity. La Bastille is housed in a contemporary glass building on the place de la Bastille and offers dance performances, and classical and contemporary music. The Opéra-Garnier features the finest 19th century works and favours more classical pieces, despite its varied programme. Lastly, the Opéra-Comique, a famous institution located between the grands boulevards and the Bourse, is devoted to operetta.
