June is music month in Paris

Now a popular event across the world, the Fête de la Musique was launched in Paris in 1982, and June has been synonymous with music in the capital ever since.

“Le siècle du jazz” exhibition
From 17 March to 28 June 2009
The Musée du quai Branly has organised an exhibition on the theme of jazz in which the philosopher and art critic Daniel Soutif explores the relationship between jazz and the graphic arts throughout the 20th century. Organised chronologically, the display features photographs, literature and cinema, with a focus on European jazz in the 30’s and 40’s.

Paris Jazz Festival
From 6 June to 26 July 2009

First launched in France, this event has now caught on across the world. For one day and one night, the streets of the capital are alive with the sound of music. The programme includes free concert events on major squares in Paris and amateur performances in bars and cafés.
