Tourism and Handicap
Culture open to all Each year, Parisian museums and monuments endeavour to improve access to their sites for people with disabilities, with the aim of developing tailor-made tours by installing access ramps and lifts, providing wheelchairs, audio-guide systems, tactile areas or brochures in Braille, and even tours in sign language. In Paris, over a hundred sites are considered to have disabled access, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they comply with the stricter requirements of the nationwide “Tourisme & Handicap” label, sole veritable guarantee of accessibility. It is also handy to know that in the majority of Parisian cultural sites, free admission is granted to persons with disabilities and their escorts on presentation of a valid certificate. Guided tours and specialist activities are also organized in some museums, although they need prior notice. And for those of you who prefer to make independent arrangements, associations can organize guided tours tailored to your particular disability.
