The Opéra Bastille was designed by Canadian-Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott. Inaugurated on 13 July 1989, the building is 80 metres high — 30 metres of it below ground — with a transparent facade... Within the building, the Grande Salle seats 2,700 people over a surface of 1,200 sq.m, a mere five per cent of the building’s total volume. Discover the Opéra Bastille’s singular stage equipment and workshops with built-in decors, its wide variety of costumes and accessories and multiple rehearsal rooms. You’ll be caught up in the magic of the opera in the heart of this huge modern theatre.
