Description :

Once upon a time there was a fairy-tale castle in the heart of the Chevreuse valley… and this one really does exist. The gardens and outbuildings of the Château de Breteuil host seven animated playlets featuring the wonderful characters of Charles Perrault’s tales... Take the time to stroll through this exceptional site and discover Cinderella and her prince, Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, Donkey Skin and other beloved fairy-tale characters along the way, not to mention the 20 richly-costumed Puss in Boots figures that dot the itinerary. A professional storyteller is at hand on Sunday afternoons and every day during the Paris region school holidays if you’d like to hear the imaginative tales of your childhood once again.

The Château de Breteuil is located 35km from Paris, in the Chevreuse valley. Built in the 17th century, it has belonged to the Marquis de Breteuil since 1712. This chateau encloses wonderful pieces of furniture, and reminds us of the history of this family along with the history of France, with 50 waxworks from the Musée Grévin. The 18th century decoration includes lots of lacquered pieces of furniture, Gobelins tapestries, royal Swedish tableware and paintings of French Kings or the Breteuil family. The masterpiece is the "table de Teschen", encrusted with 128 precious stones; it was offered to Louis-Auguste de Breteuil by the Empress Marie-Thérèse. The chateau is surrounded by French gardens and English gardens. A maze of 1,000 box plants was created in 2000. The playground, Perrault tales and numerous animations will entertain everybody. The Perrault tales are represented in rooms reflecting everyday life of the past. The chateau is open daily.
