Orthodox church
District : Champs-Elysées / Louvre
Description :
“The sun over Russia has set”. This is what was said when Saint-Alexandre (1219-1263), Grand Prince of Russia, died. This orthodox neo-Byzantine style church, consecrated in 1861, is dedicated to him. Years later, it witnessed the marriage — high-profile for the time — of Pablo Picasso and a Russian dancer, with Jean Cocteau, Max Jacob and Guillaume Apollinaire as witnesses. Saint Alexandre Nevsky has been a listed monument since 1983.
