Musée de La Vie Romantique

Museum

District : Opéra / Grands boulevards

Description :

The history of the place began when the painter Ary Scheffer, an artist of Dutch origin, came to live here in 1811. For thirty years, his home was the scene of intense artistic, political and literary activity. The museum, which it houses today, has a wonderful winter garden that still echoes with the memories of George Sand and Frédéric Chopin. So Romantic!

No visit to the Musée de la Vie Romantique is complete without a tour of its little garden, which has all the old-fashioned charm of the museum itself. The tea room set up in the conservatory from the early days of summer onwards is the ideal spot to enjoy the evocative atmosphere of the place. It takes only a small leap of the imagination to see George Sand or Chopin walk past, or hear the opening notes of a nocturne composed as a declaration of love.
