Description :
Step into the home of Nélie Jacquemart and Edouard André, 19th-century collectors with a passion for art. The works on display in the museum include.
French and Dutch collections, the highlights of which are paintings by Jean-Marc Nattier, Louise-Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun, Anton Van Dyck and Rembrandt Van Rijn. As for the Italian collection, it forms a museum in itself. Mantegna, Botticelli and Bellini were among the couple’s favourite painters. Keep an eye out for the many superb pieces of Louis XV and Louis XVI furniture in the couple’s private apartments. The museum is open seven days a week from 10 am to 6 pm.

Informations :
The Jacquemart-André museum is owned by the "Institut de France". In a splendid private mansion dating back to the Second Empire, it presents an art collection ranking amongst those of the greatest museums. Often compared to the Frick Collection in New York, the house has retained its character as a sumptuous private residence, which makes it a unique place in Paris. The museum introduces the visitor to the rooms as they were lived in during the 19th century: reception rooms, monumental staircase, winter garden room, private apartments. Edouard André, 19th century collector, and his wife Nélie Jacquemart, a well-known portrait painter, travelled across Europe and the East to acquire rare works of art and furniture. The collection they assembled is one of the finest in France: in particular regarding the Italian Renaissance - the Italian museum comprises more than a hundred exceptional works of sculpture and painting of the Trecento, Quattrocento and Cinquecento (Carpaccio, Mantegna, Bellini, Uccello, Della Robbia) - the great Flemish masters - the old library of the couple is devoted to great Flemish painters such as Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Ruysdael, Hals - and the 18th century French school - Fragonard, Boucher, Vigée-Lebrun, Greuze, Oudry, Nattier, Chardin, Lemoyne, Houdon - With its grand rooms and remarkable collections, the museum is a privileged setting for prestigious receptions. The Tiepolo fresco was bought for 30,000 lira in 1893 - to celebrate his recent marriage - from the owner of the Villa Contarini at Mira near Venice. It is composed of two parts in vis-à-vis and a ceiling. Around 1745, Vincenzo 1st of Pisani, a descendant through marriage of the Contarini, orderered this famous interior decoration from Tiepolo. So, the artist depicted a famous family event: the 1574 visit of Henri III, future king of France to the magistrate Frédérigo Contarini.
