Museum
District : Marais / Les Halles
Description :
At the heart of the Marais, the Musée Cognac-Jay houses the private collection of art lover Ernest Cognac-Jay, the founder of the La Samaritaine department store.
Like many rich art collectors in the 19th century, he particularly admired 18th century art for its elegance and sophistication.
Housed in the Hôtel Donon, a rare example of a late 16th century townhouse, the museum offers an enchanting respite from a busy day in the capital.
Informations :
In the heart of the Marais area, between a courtyard and a garden, a nice private mansion presents an exceptional art collection of the 18th century : paintings by Boucher, Chardin and Fragonard, drawings by Watteau, sculptures and furniture, precious items (jewels, snuffboxes, Dresden china...). Atmosphere of a Parisian house of the 18th century.
Collections given to the city of Paris by Ernest Cognacq and his wife, Louise Jay, creators of the Samaritaine department store.
