The Musée d’Orsay has been open to the public since December 1986: once a palace then a hotel and a station, it has been a listed building since 1978... Among the different collections presented in the museum, the one devoted to Impressionism is the richest and best-known, and includes works by Auguste Renoir (“Le Bal au Moulin de la Galette”) and Claude Monet (“La Gare Saint-Lazare”). The collections of 19th-century sculpture and photographs are equally impressive featuring works by the sculptors Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux and François Rude, and photographers Félix Nadar and Gustave Le Gray.

DMF - French Museums Board

Renowned for its rich collection of impressionist art, the Musée d'Orsay also houses western art from 1848 to 1914. Its collections represent all forms of expression, from painting to architecture, including sculpture, the decorative arts, and photography. You will be amazed by the beauty of the building: a station that looks like a palace, inaugurated for the universal exhibition in 1900.
