Château de Vincennes - Centre des Monuments Nationaux

Château

District : 94 – Val de Marne

Member of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau

Description :

Saint-Louis (1226-1270), king of France, made Vincennes popular by administering justice under an oak tree in the forest. One century went by; Charles V had a keep built here along with remparts and a holy chapel. In the 17th century, Louis XIII grew up here and Louis XIV stayed here. Half fortified castle, half classic palace, it is a wonderful ensemble and is worth a guided visit or attending a concert in the chapel!

Informations :

Centre des Monuments Nationaux

This castle is the only fortified castle in the Paris region. It used to be a hunting lodge. Then it became a royal residence, a fortress and eventually a state penitentiary.
Visits to the Royal Chapel, the fortified enclosure and the moat. After 10 years of renovation works, the keep reopened on 17 May 2007.
