Informations :
The Château d'Ecouen, built in the mid-sixteenth century for the constable Anne de Montmorency, is one of the most important achievements of the French Renaissance, and offers a panorama of the decorative arts from the European Renaissance. The chateau remained in the Montmorency family until 1696, then was passed down through inheritance to the princes of the Condé family. During the revolution, the collections were scattered but the building itself was spared thanks to the abbot Grégoire and his campaign against “vandalism” (he invented the word). The chateau then served as a prison and a military hospital. Next it became the first school for the daughters of members of the Légion d'Honneur. During the Restauration, the chateau was returned to the Condé then given back to the Légion d'Honneur in 1838 who used it as a school until 1962. Under the influence of André Malraux, it was thoroughly renovated by architects in order to house the Musée national de la Renaissance. The building and its 17 hectare park were opened to the public on 25 October 1977. An important tapestry relating story of David. New presentation of the nave (Charles the Fifth).
