Informations :
Centre des Monuments Nationaux
In 1629, Cardinal Richelieu had a vast and splendid building erected the 'Palais-Cardinal' with an adjoining garden. Later, in 1780, the palace was enlarged with the construction of houses with regular arcaded facades on three sides of the garden lined with shops. Today, the garden is made up of rows of lime trees, two long lawns and a fountain. The Buren columns, named after their designer, are situated in the courtyard, near to the Ministry of Culture. This work of art caused such a polemic that work was interrupted. Finally, François Léotard, Minister of Culture and Communication in 1986, relaunched the project which was completed in 1995. Make a wish by throwing a coin onto the column. If you succeed your wish should come true.
