Park-garden-walk
District : Passy / Bois de Boulogne
Description :
Opened in 1898 and extending over 60,500 m², the Jardin des serres d’Auteuil offers the charm of late 19th-century architecture, exotic tropical plants imported from distant countries and the richness of a botanical garden. A rare journey through time and space.
Informations :
Vestige of the plant nurseries of King Louis XV, it is one of the prettiest oases of the capital. The four stone statues that decorate the entrance come from Versailles from the Pavilion "de Madame", Countess of Provence. The palm house (which has just been completely renovated) and the plant collections in the hothouses may be visited all year round. Floral exhibitions take place in spring (azaleas) and in autumn (chrysanthemums). The big hothouse was designed by Camille Formigé and is 99 metres long and 12 metres wide. It was built between 1895 and 1898. It was completely restored in 1989. In 1968 a large part of the production of the Auteuil hothouses was transferred to the centres at Rungis and Fresnes, then in 1987, to those at Achères. Currently, only indoor plants, collection plants and those for the decoration of offices and public places are produced in the Auteuil hothouses. Palm house, tropical hothouse.
