Park-garden-walk
District : République / Bastille
Description :
Created in 1988 on the heights of Belleville, this 45,000 m² park offers a breathtaking view of the capital. It has an original play area for children as well as a waterfall fountain. A testimony to its past, the park also has 140 vines, which each produce 2 to 3 kilos of grapes. The harvesting takes place each year. The Maison de l'air has permanent exhibitions about the air in Paris.
Current events
Maison de l'Air : information au 01 43 28 47 63. Tout savoir en s'amusant sur la qualité de l'air. Ouvert tous les jours sauf le lundi.
Informations :
Until the 18th century Belleville was just a corner of the countryside with farms, windmills and open-air cafes. The former village of Belleville, (which became home to people of modest means, chased out of Paris by the great architectural replanning of Paris by Haussmann at the end of the 19th century), has in recent years undergone a complete change. A vast sloping piece of land, in the 18th century a gypsum quarry, has been transformed into a beautiful garden-opened in 1988. There are many fine trees and shrubs: lime trees, dogwoods, lilacs, mock-oranges.
A wooden village with steps, turrets and slides of all sizes is destinated to children. A water course is made up of waterfalls and jets of water. Belvedere from which you can admire the Parisian landscape. AIRPARIF, which measures the air quality in Paris may be consulted here, as well as METEOSAT satellite images that show the evolution of Europe's weather hour by hour.
