Until the 18th century Belleville was just a corner of the countryside with farms, windmills and open-air cafes. The former village of Belleville, (which became home to people of modest means, chased out of Paris by the great architectural replanning of Paris by Haussmann at the end of the 19th century), has in recent years undergone a complete change. A vast sloping piece of land, in the 18th century a gypsum quarry, has been transformed into a beautiful garden-opened in 1988. There are many fine trees and shrubs: lime trees, dogwoods, lilacs, mock-oranges.
A wooden village with steps, turrets and slides of all sizes is destinated to children. A water course is made up of waterfalls and jets of water.
