Park-garden-walk
District : Saint-Germain-des-Prés / Musée d'Orsay / Montparnasse
Description :
This garden, created in 1994, sits atop the roof of the Montparnasse train station. Inspired by the regular geometrical lines of French-style gardens and the style of English landscape gardening with its more dense vegetation, it has play areas on the theme of the ocean, tennis courts (part of a sports club), a fitness area and two table tennis tables.
Informations :
This paved garden inaugurated in 1994 was set out above the Montparnasse TGV railway lines and is without doubt the most beautiful waiting room for travellers heading towards the Atlantic. The ocean, taken as a theme for the garden, is evoked in the undulating 'waves' of the lawn and benches, in the blue of the railings, the children's play area 'sea shore room', the masts of Bernard Vié and the long pontoon that crosses the garden to the east... The central promenade of this enclave is a 'short botanical guide', with on one side, the trees of Europe, and on the other, their American equivalents.
