Square Louise Michel

Park-garden-walk

District : Montmartre

Description :

Best known for its 222 steps leading up to the Sacré Cœur Basilica, Square Louise Michel was built in 1927 and extends along the slope of Montmartre Hill. A network of gently sloping paths borders the gardens for those who do not wish to climb the steep staircase.
A popular spot with visitors because of the panoramic views it offers, and with travelling artists who come to entertain the crowds, Square Louise Michel boasts luxuriant vegetation and historical monuments to be admired as part of a Montmartre tour, including the fountain created by Paul Gasq and devoted to the ocean gods.
The variety of trees includes horse chestnut, wing nut, honey locust, fig and magnolia, as well as two superb 17-metre-high orange trees. The view over Paris from here is simply breathtaking.
